NVME M.2 SSD Solid State Drive PC Configuration Year 2019

NVMe SSD M.2
As you may know, most computers of today - Motherboards, Processors and RAMs, are extremely fast, but why do we not find much of a difference? Well... That's because speed and performance is drastically reduced by the old traditional platter based hard disk drives and the means of data transfer, which they use. Yes! Even the best of old fashioned platter based hard drives available today, are much slower than the overall speed your computer can handle. One thing is the large amount of seek time, during read operations, the low speed write operations and the other major thing is the poor means of data transfer.

As you may know, the speed of your hard drive plays a super role in the overall performance of your computer. Your operating system along with programs and data are stored on it. Your operating system performs multiple read and write operations in the background and one major example of this is the page file that aids your system memory in order to boost performance. While you work on your computer, your hard drive keeps sending and receiving data and instructions to and from your motherboard and since the speed of this data transfer is not fast enough, you notice system lags, freezes, the hourglass etc. These things may test your patience.

So how do you get the best out of your computer?

The First Answer - Simple, Quick and Low Budget

SATA SSD
Switch to an SSD aka Solid State Drive. Most SSDs today, use SATA, drastically boost your PC's performance and can be added to most PCs of today via the standard SATA port, but even SATA is not fast enough when it comes to getting the best out of your PC.

The Second Answer - A Power Packed and Much More Expensive Option

NVMe SSD M.2
The most modern motherboards of year 2019, while being a bit more expensive, come with something even more powerful. They come with the new M.2 PCI Express slot. This slot accepts a new type of super fast SSD known as an NVME aka Non-Volitile Memory Express. An NVME is around the size of a RAM and just like a RAM, its seated into the M.2 slot on the motherboard and provides an insanely high data transfer speed.

To give you a clear picture of this, here is the data transfer speed comparison:

PATA
66/100/133 MBs/second
SATA
150/300/600 MBs/second
M.2 Slot on Motherboard
A whooping 4Gbps
So if you are looking to upgrade to an NVME, you need to get a whole new lot of computer hardware, that revolves around it. This is not something you can simply plug into your old computer and use. Since NVME is a new form of hard drive technology and is way more expensive, few motherboards of today will actually support it. The NVME hard drive requires an M.2 PCI Express Slot and most motherboards of today don't have it. Most motherboards of today still utilize the SATA ports.

I have taken the liberty to select only the best compatible parts at the lowest price, for you here. All parts mentioned here are compatible with each-other and are top rated items. You can order them and assemble your PC at home. You do not need to purchase everything mentioned below. I have listed the mandatory parts needed for an NVME and the rest are recommended or optional, depending on your requirements.

When deciding to upgrade to an NVME, the first thing to begin with, is a motherboard that supports it. You need a motherboard that has an M.2 PCI Express Slot. Once you got the motherboard, you get the matching CPU and RAM. Once all this is in place, you choose your NVME. I personally recommend not going in for a high capacity NVME as its sole intention is to contain the whole operating system and programs. This is where your computer will be booting from. The most high end 64 bit operating systems of today need around 20 to 30 gb of storage space, so an NVME of a minimum 32 to 64 gb should suffice. Select the size wisely taking into account your requirements. If you intend to install heavy games and software, do your math on required storage space and get the appropriate.
